My local SCBWI chapter throws a party!
Dancing on Saturday night with my daughters and a thousand happy writers. I am the shortie in the middle. Who knew I had tall genes in me somewhere?
The awards waiting on the table to be given out. The "happy" one in the middle is the Sid Fleischman Award, with the Golden Kites flanking it.
Lin Oliver announcing the award for A Room on Lorelei Street. Yes, my stomach was doing flips flops right about now.
The Century Plaza ballroom is enormous. This chandelier would take up my whole living room. I was grateful I was seated up front and didn't have far to walk.
The real me and the "face-the-size of-a-Volkswagen" me.
My family sharing this very happy moment with me.
But there is not time to relax and enjoy the moment for long. Off to give a workshop.
Finally, back at home, the award sits on a shelf over my desk.
The SCBWI has done so much for me over the years, helping me to grow as a writer, and to learn to navigate the publishing world. It meant so much to me to be honored by this organization and my peers. I will always be grateful.
The Golden Kite Award . . .
